Encourag\u00e9e par ses parents, elle poursuit sa passion en \u00e9tudiant \u00e0 la Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art \u00e0 New York. Le couple, ainsi que leur associ\u00e9, Frederick Werner, d\u00e9cident de cr\u00e9er une entreprise textile \u00e0 partir de leur maison. \u00c0 l'aide d'une simple table de salle \u00e0 manger et d'une minuscule presse \u00e0 s\u00e9rigraphie, Vera imprime \u00e0 la main ses premiers motifs sur du tissu. Ces premiers imprim\u00e9s \u00e9taient simples, mais ils portaient sa signature : des couleurs vives, des th\u00e8mes inspir\u00e9s de la nature et un sens de l'optimisme qui allait bient\u00f4t devenir sa marque de fabrique.<\/p>\n<p>Leur perc\u00e9e s'est faite presque par hasard. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, la p\u00e9nurie de tissus rendait difficile l'approvisionnement en mat\u00e9riaux. Toujours pleins de ressources, Vera et son \u00e9quipe ont trouv\u00e9 des surplus de soie utilis\u00e9s pour les parachutes militaires. Ils ont utilis\u00e9 ce mat\u00e9riau inattendu pour cr\u00e9er des \u00e9charpes carr\u00e9es, une initiative qui, sans le savoir, allait donner naissance \u00e0 un empire. Au lieu des tons traditionnels et feutr\u00e9s, ses cr\u00e9ations d\u00e9bordaient de couleurs - des oranges vifs, des bleus profonds, des verts \u00e9clatants. Ses motifs s'inspirent du monde qui l'entoure : papillons, formes abstraites, fleurs de jardin et m\u00eame peintures \u00e0 l'encre japonaise.
